“It’s really important to get our children involved early and educate them about their connection to the planet, how things work, and what they can do to help. If our children grow up thinking that carrots come from a bag and milk comes from a carton, we are all in trouble.”

Heroes & Hope – 10th Annual Earth Day Kids Fest

We had a record turnout this year for the 10th Annual Earth Day Kids Fest. Each year the Captain Planet Foundation partners with the Chattahoochee Nature Center to put on this amazing event that teaches kids to celebrate, love and play within our natural world. Children are introduced to important environmental concerns, like the dangers of plastic bags and preservation of fragile ecosystems, but arguably, one of the most important goals of EDKF is to get these kids outside, playing in the sunshine and forming a bond with nature. This year we had 1,655 in attendance!

Adults and kids, of all ages, were singing and dancing to Laughing Pizza,

as well as, canoeing and playing Paul Tukey’s outdoor games from his new book Tag, Toss and Run

and the female Hawks intern smoked the guys, including NFL star, Ovie Mughelli!

Seeing the bison man snuggle up with Thunder, his bison really showed the young folks how close we can be to large animals.

And the one-eyed owl was a big hit.

Children were lined up at the Weather Wall learning to become weather reporters.

I was really happy to see how involved the young people became as they encountered animals small and large as they walked the pathways that circled around the  Chattachoochee Nature Center.

The Bag Man taught some very valuable lessons to the kids,

Captain Planet met his future generation of Planeteers,

and Ovie Mughelli joined Captain Planet as a real-life hero to his fans.

Thank you so much to every one that came out and supported Earth Day Kids Fest. It was a wonderful day and I’m hoping made an impact on our future generation of environmental stewards!

Thanks to everyone who allowed for Thunder and I to share in Kids Fest at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Have a happy day, Chipa Wolfe
