Patagonia is truly an example of a business that leverages sustainability effectively for their company and for the planet. Their commitment to their product and to the environment is inspiring. Through the 1% For The Planet program, they have pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. They’ve awarded over $46 million in cash and in-kind donations to domestic and international grassroots environmental groups making a difference in their local communities. 1% For The Planet is an alliance of businesses that understand the necessity of protecting the natural environment. They understand that profit and loss are directly linked to its health, and are concerned with the social and environmental impacts of industry.
They also started an innovative program called the Common Threads Initiative. As a company they prioritize Reduce, Repair, Reuse, Recycle! When I visited the Patagonia headquarters awhile back they even showed me their innovative method for making clothing out of recycled materials! Once, I took a jacket of mine to my local store and they repaired the zipper free of charge.
I love my Patagonia clothes and I am a frequent customer. Their clothes are stylish, they wear well and I feel good that I am supporting a company that supports the environment.
