This year Rutherford and I were invited to the White House Christmas Party. The tree was decorated with medals of honor, service badges and handmade cards by the children of service members. It was the First Ladies brilliant idea! The house smelled like Christmas, so clean and piney from the smell of Christmas trees and other greenery.
It was amazing being surrounded by the incredible portraits of our countries greatest leaders – both Republican and Democrat. From Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt to John F Kennedy and our very own Jimmy Carter. I took my picture in front of the portrait of former first lady great, Eleanor Roosevelt, who is responsible for the first garden planted on the White House lawn, which resulted in millions of victory gardens planted in the US. Michelle Obama planted the second garden, which has been the inspiration for school and community gardens by the thousands resulting in healthier and happier citizens. It’s feeling a lot like Christmas!!
