For everyone out there getting ready or currently traveling for the holiday season, I wanted to highlight a really exciting pilot project that is going on at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Hartsfield-Jackson is one of the busiest airports in the world, and its Concourse T will serve as the first Sustainable Food Court Initiative pilot project. My good friend, Holly Elmore of Elemental Impact/Zero Waste Zone is the amazing woman behind the scenes.
“With the support of the National Restaurant Association, the Foodservice Packaging Institute, Institute for Local Self Reliance, Elemental Impact and leading industry experts, the Atlanta Airport is the nation’s leader in requiring zero waste initiatives implementation in foodservice operations at a major venue.”
You can read all of the exciting details at Zero Waste Zone here. So keep in mind while you are traveling this season, the impact that an initiative like this could have – the tons upon tons of waste no longer going in landfills! But this Integrated Approach to Sustainability will have an even greater impact beyond landfill diversion. Currently this project is in its very early stages and mostly behind-the-scenes, but make sure you stay tuned for more exciting announcements about the SFCI pilot project!
