“It’s really important to get our children involved early and educate them about their connection to the planet, how things work, and what they can do to help. If our children grow up thinking that carrots come from a bag and milk comes from a carton, we are all in trouble.”

How Usher’s New Look is Helping Our Planet

This week, my husband, Rutherford and I have the honor of co-chairing the World Leadership Conference and Awards 2011, hosted by Usher’s New Look Foundation. In addition to co-chairing, I will be a panelist for the Women’s Global Leadership Panel and Breakfast, as well as the “Talent:EcoRyders” panel. Rutherford will be speaking for one of the workshops at the conference.

Usher’s New Look Foundation aims at the heart of what I believe we must all concentrate on, and that is the sound development of future generations. Today’s children will be tomorrow’s leaders; it is up to us to leave them a cleaner planet to prosper in and provide them with the tools to succeed, so they can continue to lay the groundwork for the many generations thereafter.

The New Look Foundation certifies young people in four leadership pillars – talent, education, career and service – to ensure their success as leaders throughout the world. The results speak for themselves -

98% of youth graduate high school and go on to college
93% of youth recognize they have the power to encourage others to create change in the community
93% of youth can identify a personal talent or passion
88% feel they are equipped to engage in formal business events
90% of youth attribute their positive decision-making to New Look

Sustainability and the care of our planet is a key issue these graduates will need to consider as they make their way in the world and create the world of tomorrow. I am so honored to be able to participate in this conference.
