We all want our homes be fresh and clean, but did you know that many conventional cleaning products contain dangerous chemicals that can cause serious health problems? To keep the air and surfaces in my home clean, I love using homemade cleaning products – they are easy to make, are inexpensive and I have peace of mind knowing that I am not exposing my family to any harsh chemicals. Read on for my favorite recipes and mix up your own cleaning products this weekend!
The acids in white vinegar and lemon juice dissolve dirt and buildup, making them excellent cleaning agents.
For an effective window cleaning spray, mix 2 teaspoons of vinegar with 1 quart of warm water in a spray bottle. Shake well, spray on glass surfaces and wipe away with a newspaper for less streaking.
For a general household cleaner, mix ¼ a cup of baking soda, ½ cup of borax, ½ cup of vinegar with 1 gallon of water. Divide and pour into spray bottles, and shake well before using.
Pour ¼ cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by ½ cup of vinegar. Let this mixture sit for 15 minutes, then follow with boiling water to rinse away the clog.

A sprinkle of baking soda on a sponge makes a great non-abrasive cleaner for bathrooms, sinks, countertops and ovens. Bonus: It also deodorizes, making it a great laundry detergent and carpet deodorizer.
